My love affair

I love my coffee and regardless how many times my mom reminds me that I should reduce the consumption, I am still drinking it like a fish especially when I am not occupied with anything!

Recently someone’s relative was admitted to the hospital because there was something wrong with her glucose level. That did not alarm me; but the fact that she is very much a heavy coffee drinker (like me!) makes me think. The doctor told her that the caffeine could have contributed to the irregular glucose.

At first I snickered at the idea of linking coffee with diabetes. No way! I protested and suggested that it could be too much of sugar in the drinks. Well, I am taking sugarless coffee (for almost a year) and I thought I am protecting myself from the risk of diabetes. Not so. I referred to few studies on coffee and diabetes (see the links below). I am surprised!

Ooh well, I believe I still can enjoy my coffee (act of self-defense) – if I am taking it moderately.

Kuih Kacang Hijau

Dear officemates,

Thank you for keeping some kuih kacang hijau for my coffee break.

I was touched by your thoughfulness.

Even when I ended up having my afternoon coffee alone at the canteen, I still feel super good!

Not a bad Monday!

Sprinkled! & her coffee

Coffee splash from na roda-gigante
I was meeting an acquaintance after work yesterday.  We had agreed to meet at Starbucks but yours truly was evil enough to disguise a 3-in-1 instant coffee in her Starbucks flask which she prepared before going out from the office.  So I waited her there with a hot coffee on the table (thankfully it is a short distance from office to Starbucks so that I don’t get there with a lukewarm drinks!) and a good book on my hand.

There I am, saving few ringgits on a coffee.  I mean, a pack of 20 sticks of instant coffee would only cost me RM10 (only RM0.50 per cup - if I use a stick a cup; free hot water from the office pantry), while just a cup of my favourite grande caramel macchiato could easily makes me poorer by RM10 (that is, after a “bring your own tumbler” RM2 discount).  Of course the taste is different (instant vs. freshly pressed) but heck!  I promise myself to make a decent cup when I reach home.  But no, thanks, dear barista, no coffee for me today.

Wow!  Isn’t it exciting enough to learn that I can actually stretch my ringgits without losing fun?

Coffee or Tea?

Cutesy bear from weheartit
I am sleepy.

It is only 1:43pm and I am already into the 3rd mug.

Should I get a cup of tea instead?

The other hot thing (part 2)

Image taken from perfectionturnsmeon
I survived drinking just one black coffee (without sugar) per day from Monday to Friday.  On Saturday I took one coffee with sweetened condensed milk.  Not so sinful because it just one cup (although you might scream at the “sweetened” word).  By Sunday I succumbed to the temptation: 3 coffees.  As if that is not bad enough, I had them all with sugar!!!  I didn’t actually finish the last cup (I think I was distracted by something and left it cold) but still, it contains sugar.

How do you resist any form of temptations?

The other hot thing

My family and close friends know just how addicted I am to coffee.  My mom, for example, has been trying unsuccessfully to convince me to reduce my coffee intake.  She said that too much of it is why I cannot gain weight.  We don’t know how true that is.  However, I’m well aware that caffeine is a common ingredient in cellulite remover.

Mom’s advice fell on my deaf ears and I, of course, still drink coffee as frequent as I like.  The taste, the aroma, and the time I spend enjoying a hot mug of coffee are almost as positive as the benefits of drinking it.

I might not be reducing the amount of coffee I drink everyday, but am definitely cutting down sugar.  Last time I used to add 2(!!!!!) teaspoons but eventually managed to lessen to less than half a teaspoon per mug.  Somehow I still need to go with zero-sugar coffee because sugar is not needed in our diet.  Imagine if I’m consuming 4 mugs a day, which could add up to 2 teaspoons of sugar!

I’m not sure why I want to talk about coffee, sugar…  Perhaps because my colleagues are fasting for a month starting from today, so I’m somewhat more conscious of drinking/eating in front of them.  Perhaps too, since I’m not done with my blood sampling yet, I want to reduce sugar intake to get better glucose reading (self-cheating, so to speak).

Anyway, selamat berpuasa to all Muslim friends!

Brasil what?

I woke up early today because Shorty was barking desperately.  Being temporary chained to the door, I thought he might just asking me to let him go for a pee.  Poor thing!  But I guess the boys just want to see me and say "good morning, our girl" well before I oversleep into the noon.

Last night was a Holland versus Brasil match (2-1), not that I am a World Cup fan.  Just saying it as a matter of fact.  It does not matter which team is winning (at least to me - before you start barking at me).  Just that I don't get why some people are so hyper about team like Brasil.  Not that I am anti-Brasil either.  Just wondering...

The other day I was watching Germany versus England game.  The only World Cup match that I watched fulltime so far.  Was cheering for Gerrard although I don't favor any of the two teams.  Ooh!  And admiring Oezil at the same time.  For his skill (and a little bit on his doe-like eyes!).

Now, now...  Why do I write about football (or soccer)?!  Gotta stop mumbling and get my coffee!

Have a great (World Cup) weekend, peeps!

Midday laziness

Went for chicken rise rise rice for lunch with the girls.  I cannot finish the rice (as usual); but even so I still feel like something or someone is pulling down my eyelids.  Too sleepy until I wrongly spelled rice (rise) twice!  I thought of going for coffee at the canteen but it's still to early for it and I'll be as sleepy as before regardless how many cups of kopi I drink.

Now I'm starting to plan for tonight...
  • Shops for Najmi's wedding gift
  • Text/call mommyeryna so that I can pass the stuff to her
  • Dinner!!!  What's for tonight's dinner?
  • Return books to library (I'll be looking for another Sophie Kinsella's titles...  I just finish "The Undomestic Goddess" and found it quite nice actually.)
  • Buy meaty meals for the boys  ^_____^
Ouch!  Why time passes so slow when I want it to be fast!?  I'm dying for a coffee now...
