Cooking with love

I'm cooking prawn fried rice for dinner tomorrow!  I prepared / chopped / julienned the ingredients so when I finish work, all I have to do is bring out the raw material from the fridge.  ^_____^
  • Prawn
  • Red cabbage
  • French beans
  • Eggs
  • Canned tuna in water
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Brown rice (left overnight in the fridge)
  • Lots of love for myself (cheers for choosing to cook healthy food!!!)
I thought of adding carrot (not my favorite) and/or pineapple but I'm scared if it is going to be like...  too many flavor in a palate?  Maybe pineapple (always goes well with prawn kan?).  Will get a nenas then!

Anyway, the neighbor's daugther is crying again.  Sometimes I like to think that there is a orang kerdil family living in the wall, so that what's I heard is actually the orang kerdil's daugther cries.  Hmm...

Kuih Bulan / Mooncake / 月饼

< white flag >
My sister wants me to write something in Dusun / Lunbawang language.  I can't even construct a full sentence.  Failed miserably.
< / white flag >

Anyway, I received 2 mooncakes at work yesterday - a single yolk & a double yolk pure lotus.  If I had known I will get not just one but 2(!!!), I would not buy one for myself last week.  But I should not be complaining about it because I bought a double yolk pure lotus at RM11.20 after a 30% discount.  Bleghhh!!!  I feel like I am becoming more like auntie-auntie because I always look for cheap bargain, even if I have to wait.  But we girls have to be smart right?  ^_____^

< sigh >
Why the week is moving very slow?  It is only Wednesday...

Grocery shopping

Bacon RM17.80
Chicken RM6.47
Eggs RM 3.80
Sweet corn RM2.69
Cheese in olive oil RM7.50
Carrot RM1.99
Broccoli RM1.42
Purple cabbage RM2.71
Baby butterhead RM2.55
Thai small red onion RM3.99
Total RM51.00

By the way, I was slightly mad when I saw Jusco is selling a toothpaste at RM13.49.  I bought the very same toothpaste from Giant at RM14.99!!!  I am not Giant's big fan but was sort of being dragged into the hypermarket.  I rather shops at Jusco at any time (it feels less wholesale-like market than Giant, Tesco & Carrefour) but I wonder why some said Jusco is more expensive than other stores.

And I do not cook the chicken and the carrot for myself; it is for Shorty.  I just mix grated carrot and a chunk of chicken into the rice and voila!  Dinner done, my boy.  (Shorty's lunch is always provided by his kai ma, that lucky boy!)

Enough of rant.

P.S.  I really hate carrot as my food, but I can accept carrot juice.

Out of here!

Image taken from weheartit

My work is completed and I had passed down whatever necessary to my colleagues, as well as notifying my supervisor on the latest updates before I’m off for holidays.  I didn’t take a long break this time.  Seriously, this one is super duper short compare to the usual two-weeks that I took in previous Christmases.

Despite my absence in Grandma’s house this year, I’m still glad that I’ve got my favorite snack from kampung.  It is not really a snack; more of an appetizer due to its sour taste.  But sometimes I like to eat it without rice.  OMG!  Just writing about it makes me salivating!!!

Tomorrow is an adventure.  But that’s another story.

I don't want to eat doggy food!

Pork meant to be processed into dog food being sold in markets

O M G !

I am so glad that recently I always go vegetarian for lunch.

As for dinner, I am happy to just have fish or eggs as my "meaty" replacement rather than having chicken / pork / beef / mutton.

I think I should avoid pork as much as I can.

Mid Autumn Festival

Image taken from vulcan.tumblr.com

Happy mid-autumn day!

In Chinese it is called 中秋节 (zhōngqiūjié), or also also known as Mooncake Festival.  This year, the celebration falls on next Wednesday, September 22nd.  Although I don't celebrate it, I like eating mooncakes.  I especially love the pure lotus with salted yolk; I never like a pandan-flavored one.  Those with 'modern' flavors i.e. coffee, chocolate, cheese, or even green tea are just out of my list.

Sunny side up

Selamat Hari Merdeka Ke-53 to all Malaysians!

I've got a long weekend (Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday) and now, boy, I hate am so lazy to go back to work!  I need some happy thoughts here!
  • I washed my car including removing the evidence of Shorty having fun rides with me.  The other day when we were out to get our weekend newspapers, the young girl who run the stall with her granny (I think so) shyly asked me "Kak, kenapa hari ni bawa anjing keluar?  Saya takut anjing laa..."  Poor Shorty, some people get intimidated by his outgoing appearance.
  • As I am writing this, Shorty is going into the kitchen.  I think he is hoping for more pork porridge with grated carrot.  Yeah, I have a home-cooked meal for him and he loves it!  I am contented with him licking his bowl clean. The owner got herself cheesy ham sandwiches and coffee as she had a really, really late lunch at 4pm!
  • Now speaking of dogs and their owners.  I cannot swallow carrot unless it is finely grated or in juice form.  "Neither do I", Shorty said.  Sometimes I let him eat my leftover (which obviously contained Julienne-cut carrots) but he too, would not eat the damn thing.
  • Got my regular shower cream at RM16.88 (with an FOC 600ml refill pack) which usually cost me RM19.90 (add RM8 for one refill).  Save about 40%!!!  Any girls will be happy to be able to ssstttrrreeetttccchhh their ringgits, right?
What is your happy thought?

Bad food service

I witnessed one unpleasant incident at the canteen today.

Customer:  I want to return this.  (showing a plate of veggie)
Canteen:  Why?  (buat muka bodoh)
Customer:  It smells so bad.
Canteen:  (take the plate, look at the veggie container at the counter at stirring it with the large spatula)  Nothing wrong.
Customer:  (losing his patience)  Smell and see.
Canteen:  (with her monkey-donkeyish face)  …

And while the customer was eating, the monkey-donkey lady went over to his place.

Canteen:  You don’t complain to me, but when you see my boss, you tell her.
Customer:  (nodding his head, looking blankly at the monkey-donkey lady, and continue eating)
Canteen:  (still not satisfied with the response and continue to defend herself)  I’m only the worker.

Aha!  That is when I almost explode listening to such a selfish explanation!

I wanted yell at the monkey-donkey lady
THAT IS WHY YOU ARE STUCK AT BEING A FOOD SERVICE OPERATOR ONLY BECAUSE YOU CANNOT EVEN SOLVE FOR SUCH A SIMPLE MATTER!
Well, I have nothing against any waiters/waitresses but this idiot one just makes me want to punch her face!

She could have checked the food prior to selling it.  If the food still okay (visual-, taste- & smell-wise), to the display counter it goes.  If not, report to the manager.  Was it so difficult to do?!  Either her brain is baked in the microwave or she forgotten to put it on this morning.

I am self-banning myself from buying food from them (which actually started long before this incident happened), and not even a canned drink.

Picky eater

I admit that I’m a picky eater.  A habit I have since I was young.  Ask my parents.  They tried many ways to get me eating.  Mommy told me that I used to stuff my food in my mouth until she realized that I had not swallowed anything!

Now that I’m older, my pickiness somehow is not subdued but even getting worst sometimes.  One day I’m a voracious eater; another day I could puke just by looking at the menu.

Just like early this week, I bought myself Indian rojak and pork porridge for brunch.  I cleaned my bowls (except for the potatoes in the rojak – I hate puh-tey-toh).  Then, I went on munching on raisin biscuits and butter cookies before I finally smothered all down with a mug of my favourite poison: coffee.

And just few days ago, I felt extremely hungry and insatiable throughout the day.  I had oatmeal with milk for breakfast.  After taking lunch, I went on eating peanut butter sandwiches which I luckily packed for coffee break that day.  And since I’d eaten my bread before the break, I just took cream crackers with coffee.  By dinner time, I was still feeling full from the whole day crazy eating that I just drank a hot cocoa drink.

Today, I skipped breakfast (I was late for work!!!  Again!!!).  Strangely I don’t feel hungry at all.  At lunch, I barely finished my meal.  I think I only ate two-thirds of it.  What a waste!  I still have egg sandwiches.  Now I really feel like throwing up!!!

Wordless Tuesday

I am in the mood of writing although I have nothing to say actually. Yeah, the other day I was tempted to write about someone who got under my skin. But then again, I was thinking, that someday when I hit the old age I want to read something from the younger me which reminds me of a good time, a good friend, a good pet, a good food, a good place… Basically all the goodies stuff.  Besides, I believe that the person have no intention of doing so if he/she know that it blew me up; perhaps it is in their genes, you know, being nosey and all.

I also don't want to take the risk of them red-flagging me.  :o

Anyway, the office hour is almost over now.

I'm thinking what's for dinner tonight...

10 tablespoons

5 tablespoons in the morning and another 5 in the evening.  That is the amount of dry food that my neighbor gives to Marvin daily.  :o

I was talking to the other neighbor whom own a pack of dogs of different breeds when Marvin and his human friend had a walk around the neighborhood.  I saw him inside of the house before, but this time I had a very upclose look on him.  He is very skinny for any Golden Retriever standards!  Way, way too thin!

Even LouLou the fat cat is being fed more than that!  But this Marvin boy looks so happy despite being underfed and politely greeted Shorty and Boss (my neighbor's black pug) who were busy pee-fighting at my gate.  I always love Golden Retriever for their good manners and their golden-coated big body (nice to hug).  So naturally I feel sad when I see one like Marvin.

Luckily Boss' owner is never too stingy and fed Marvin whenever she saw him with an empty bowl.  Poor Marvin!  While me sometimes struggling to nag Shorty to finish his food...

Happy meal!

I might or might have not mentioned that I don’t like cooking, that my kitchen is only for me to make coffee. And even that one is just an instant one, mind you. Not the type that requires me to fill grounded beans into an espresso machine. Nothing. Needless to say, I am quite (subtly speaking) disastrous when it comes to kitchen/cooking part.

But after years of eating out (which started when I was a student), I feel somehow my taste buds has been wipe out. I’m not saying the shops are selling bad stuff.

So this morning I prepared my lunchbox which consist of very simple dishes: a stir-fried sawi with tofu and fried egg. Anyway, I don’t like greens so I finely chopped the sawi. Now I don’t have to chew it a lot, do I? But I think the vitamins leach this way faster during cooking, someone please tell me about it.

And because I can barely contain my excitement (of making a successful edible meal), I skyped Whoelses this morning – just to announced it! I almost laughed at myself too when she said: “wah! nak jatuh kerusi!” Then it hit me:  How I wish I can share my lunchbox with her (to Whoelses: pork-free, ya?) because I used to “steal” hers.

Happy eating!

P.S.:  Missing my old colleagues  :(((((  You girls are wonderful!

Half a beef sandwich

  • Bought a beef sandwich for lunch yesterday; I thought I take some bites while driving but turn out it is not as conveniently small as McD's Fillet'O Fish burger which I can efficiently hold only my left hand (the same hand also navigate the gear) and right hand 100% on the steering wheel.  Missed my lunch but again, efficiently converting it into Shorty's and my breakfast (half for each).  He's happy, and I'm happy too.  ^_____^
  • Texted Najmi.  She called but the line was so blurry!  So I emailed her instead.  Miss her!
  • Done a bit of online (window) shopping.  Didn't order anything.  Want to learn to be like Queen Mother.
  • My head is spinning from too much of excitement.  Giddy dizzy bits of me!  Life, is so full of it, don't you agree?!

Please pass me the salted chicken!

m e o w     m e o w     m e o w

Captured his annoyed look - after I gave him quite a tight squeeze for ambushing me!
Bad kitty!

Reason of ambushing my human friend:
Not giving me salted chicken leftover; even though I've been sitting obediently on the chair while waiting for her to finish her dinner.  Purrrrr lease la...  I didn't even said a "meow" during the whole waiting episode.  I behaved very well (like a gentleman - although she always insist that I'm a reckless, adrenaline-pumped young boy) at the table!

Reason of not giving the chicken to LouLou:
It is very obvious.  High in sodium.  Not for cat consumption.  It is actually not even a healthy choice of food for the human.  Despite being steamed.  So not.  End of bargain.

Cameron Highland, we went!

Posted by Picasa

YYYYY

Boh Plantation at Sungai Palas is really, really, really breath-taking.
The weather, the air, the girls, the tea, the scone...
Let just say that the whole atmosphere makes me don't want to leave the place!
I could sit there for hours doing nothing - maybe just daydreamingly flipping magazines or read a book while sipping hot tea alfresco.
Too bad we were having a tight schedule.
I ordered a pot of Palas Supreme (orange pekoe light tea from Sungai Palas Garden).
I am not much of a tea fan; and this tea doesn't have the slight bitter after-taste which is just nice on my bud.

YYYYY

We managed to visit both Boh & Bharat teashops.
But I am definitely giving Boh A++ for the tea and scones and the ambience.
The scone was just nicely reheat so that the butter melted and blended into it and releasing a freshly bake aroma!
I can't say the same for the other teashop; maybe the guy didn't really reheat the scone.
Ooh!  I didn't really like the guy because he messed up my order with other customer - tell me how hard it that to differentiate Teh'O and strawberry tea.
Yeah, I only ordered teh'o because the guy didn't answered me when I asked for their best-selling tea.
Shame on you, I would never go there again.

Boh's scone

Bharat's scone

YYYYY

Yes, I did bought some potted plants like parsley, mint, lavender and halau nyamuk.
The sellers told us "it can survived down there."
Let's wait and see.
And lastly, bunch of postcards for my postcrossing addiction!

Main Entry: shoe (part 2)

Huloo!!!  Part 1 is >>>  h e r e  <<<

Had a bad start in the morning because I can't get the breakfast that I wanted, so ended up buying few pieces of fried tofu which could actually feed all my colleagues.  Nah, I am just exaggerating.  But I think I bought too much of it without even thinking when I made an order of... 3 plates (each have 4 pieces of tofu).  So mindless!  Guess I have to eat tofu for breakfast (already eaten 3/4 of a plate), lunch (another plate) & coffeebreak/dinner (one last plate!).

Shoe, ya, I am supposed to talk write about shoe.  I got a reply from Le Clothes PO so that means I am closer to getting my new white shoe!  Thank god I buat muka tebal requesting them to inform me if they have a white pair in the future.  And they replied me:

So happy!

Quicker than a Quickie

  • Had a late lunch at 2pm due to urgent stuff at workplace.  Thought want to skip but hate feeling hungry later in the afternoon.  Besides, I don't have biscuits in my drawer now, only a gluten-free yoghurt bar.  Not exactly what I like to go with my afternoon coffee.
  • Funny quote of the day (read full article here).  Despite me having no intention to have my own sooner/later, I still think there is something bothering, and objectionable about the part that reads "...or have none at all".
"The No. 1 thing people can do to be an eco-sexual is to have fewer kids, or have none at all," said Weiss, who is childless.
  • Was thinking of doing a bit of online shopping when I was dragged out of the office.  It was about work.  I missed my coffee.
